Shane Dempster, Principal

An east coaster, Shane is originally from New Glasgow, Nova Scotia with roots in New Brunswick. He’s lived in the region for almost two decades with ten years spent in Fort Vermilion before moving to High Level. Adventure and employment brought Shane to FVSD where he has held several positions – Jr High teacher at HCCS, Jr/Sr High teacher at FVPS, FVSD Coordinator under two separate AISI projects, Assistant Principal and then Principal at SNCS. He is currently Principal at HLPS.

Shane, along with his wife and children have found a close-knit community and a great support system in the people that live and work here, people who have become their northern family.

“I personally am looking forward to a new challenge at High Level Public. This years Grad class was my first grade 6 class when I became Principal at Spirit of the North. I am looking forward to catching up with them and watching them finish their schooling on a high note.”

Sarah Chisholm, Assistant Principal

Originally from Elliot Lake, Ontario, Sarah Chisholm has lived in High Level for the past 12 years. With teaching positions few and far between on the east coast, Sarah moved north. She started with FVSD at SNCS as a Grade 6 teacher then moved to UHRS in Meander River for seven years. Sarah later returned to SNCS to teach Grade 5 and is currently an Assistant Principal at HLPS.

Since living in the north, Sarah has been amazed at the sense of community in the region and the way everyone pulls together in a crisis. The people in our region are very welcoming of newcomers and make you feel at home. The beautiful landscape and the endless outdoor activities available in the region are also a favorite feature.

“I am extremely excited to connect to the staff, students, and families of High Level Public. We are going to have an amazing year!”

Stephen Kirkpatrick, Assistant Principal

Stephen Kirkpatrick has lived in the region since 2011 when he moved from Hoyt, New Brunswick. Since joining FVSD he has taught at HLPS, SNCS and RLNS. Stephen is currently Assistant Principal at HLPS.

If you like to camp and be outside, our region is the perfect place to live! Stephen loves to get outside and stargaze or watch one of our region’s spectacular northern lights shows.

“I'm most looking forward to re-connecting with students who we haven't seen over the last year and welcoming them back into our building. Being able to participate in sports and clubs will certainly bring a renewed energy to our school community and be a nice refresher for us all. We have amazing students, staff, and parents in our school community and I look forward to working with them towards the best possible learning experience.”
